John Demmler’s dream of having a “friendly, close-by,
comfortable place to relax, after a day’s work, began before the
closing of the“ Twin Flames” restaurant in 1989. ‘The Family’
added ‘gorgeous’ to the list of requirements in the long years of
‘after work’ renovations done almost exclusively by family members
(along with the ‘spirits’ who still reside there). It was
slow hard work, but the spirits seemed to approve. Family
‘discussions’ often centered on ‘design’ and how to change it, “What
do you mean – Raise the roof ?” ; “I mean I hate these low
ceilings. What can you do about it?” John defied the ‘nay-sayers’
and built cathedral ceilings. He also built a beautiful separate
‘non-smoking’ addition for the comfort of those for whom smoke is a
problem. We are happy to accommodate both choices.
Jacob’s Gable
Inn celebrated its first year anniversary, Oct 29 of 2006.
The journey has been; exciting, frustrating, accelerating, anxiety
producing, and successful. We are proud of passing that first and
most formidable statistic – ‘Three out of five new restaurants
will not survive their first year.’ But most of all, we are proud of
the many friends who have supported us. It has been a learning year
and we’re still learning. Our goal has always been and continues to
be the three f ’s ; “friends - fun - n’ food.” We have learned a
lot this first year. We will learn more as we listen. We truly want
our ‘tavern on the hill’ to become “Hometown On The Hill”. |
